The Biggest Trade Shows in the World and in Europe in 2027

There are 1,565 exhibition venues worldwide with at least 5,000 square metres of indoor space, adding up to 45.2 million square metres (UFI, World Map of Exhibition Venues, October 2026). China holds 30.7 per cent of that capacity, the United States 13.9 per cent and Germany 7.0 per cent. If you are choosing one flagship show for 2027, that map tells you where the halls are. It does not tell you which show deserves your stand budget.

Most lists of the “biggest trade shows in the world” do not help much either. They rank by a single number without saying which one, quote figures without a year, or name shows that do not even run in 2027.

Compare shows using the measure of size that fits your goal, such as trade visitors, exhibitors or floor space. Below you will find the largest trade shows in the world and in Europe that take place in 2027, with dates and the figures of their latest edition, each taken from the organiser. Dates and figures were last checked on 2 November 2026.

How to read a trade show ranking

Before the list, a word on what “biggest” means, because every organiser counts differently. Picture the head of export marketing at a British machinery maker. Her CEO wants one flagship show in 2027 and asks a fair question: why that one? “Because it is the biggest” will not survive the follow-up. Biggest by what?

  • Exhibitors: show how completely an industry is represented. Good for buyers, and a sign of how many competitors will stand in your aisle.
  • Attendance: shows reach. Public days, city festivals and exhibitor staff can inflate it a great deal.
  • Trade visitors: show how many people come for business. For B2B exhibitors this is usually the number that matters.
  • Floor space: shows scale, but organisers publish it inconsistently and often mix gross and net space.

CES is a useful example because its figures are audited. CES 2026 drew 148,392 attendees, and 54,676 of them were exhibitor personnel (CES attendance audit summary, 2026). More than a third of the headline number were people working the stands. Compare like with like, or the ranking compares nothing.

The biggest trade shows in the world in 2027

Two shows stand out globally in 2027, and one giant is missing.

Canton Fair, Guangzhou

The China Import and Export Fair is the largest show on this list by floor space, by a wide margin. Its spring 2026 session was set to cover 1.55 million square metres with 75,700 booths and more than 32,000 participating enterprises, according to China’s Ministry of Commerce (Canton Fair, 12 April 2026). It runs twice a year in three phases, each with its own product categories, so in practice you choose a phase, not a fair. At the time of checking we found no official 2027 dates. The fair has followed a pattern of mid April to early May for the spring session and mid October to early November for the autumn session.

CES, Las Vegas

CES lists more than 4,100 exhibitors and drew 148,392 audited attendees in January 2026, 37.6 per cent of them from outside the United States (Consumer Technology Association, 2026). It is the first big date of the year: CES 2027 runs from 6 to 9 January. For a European exhibitor, build-up starts straight after the Christmas break.

Missing in 2027: bauma

bauma in Munich, the world’s leading trade fair for construction machinery, counted 3,601 exhibitors from 57 nations and around 600,000 visitors in 2025 (Messe München, April 2025). It runs every three years, and the next edition is 3 to 9 April 2028. drupa, the printing industry’s leading show, also returns only in May 2028. The line-up of major shows therefore changes substantially from year to year.

The biggest trade shows in Europe in 2027

Europe’s calendar is easier to plan, because almost every major organiser has confirmed its 2027 dates. The table lists ten of the largest shows in date order. Similar in size by exhibitors, but not in this selection: Ambiente in Frankfurt (4,636 exhibitors in 2026; 29 January to 2 February 2027) and Heimtextil (around 3,000; 12 to 15 January 2027).

Seven of the ten take place in Germany. Europe’s big shows still run through German halls. Two dates also break with habit: ITB Berlin moves to the second half of March as a one-off, and Hannover Messe shrinks to four days, Monday to Thursday.

Exhibitors at the latest edition, eight of Europe's largest shows in 2027

Koelnmesse (2025, 2026), Messe Berlin (2026), Messe Düsseldorf (2025), Deutsche Messe (2026), GSMA (2026), DLG (2025), IAA Mobility press release (2025)

1. Anuga, Cologne

Koelnmesse calls Anuga the largest business platform of the global food industry, and 2025 was its biggest edition yet: 8,015 companies from 110 countries on 300,000 square metres of exhibition space, and more than 145,000 trade visitors from over 190 countries (Koelnmesse, October 2025). 94 per cent of exhibitors came from abroad. Entry is for trade visitors only. Next edition: 9 to 13 October 2027.

2. ITB Berlin

ITB Berlin 2026 brought together 5,601 exhibitors from 166 countries and almost 97,000 trade visitors (Messe Berlin, 5 March 2026). It runs as a pure B2B event, so every visitor is there on business. If you organise a travel show competing for the same buyers, our guide on attracting international buyers covers the levers that work. 2027 dates: 16 to 18 March.

3. MEDICA with COMPAMED, Düsseldorf

MEDICA and its parallel supplier show COMPAMED counted more than 5,300 exhibitors from 70 nations and 78,000 trade visitors from 160 countries in 2025 (Messe Düsseldorf, 20 November 2025). Three quarters of the trade visitors came from abroad, and the organiser says three quarters belong to top management. Around 750 of the exhibitors were at COMPAMED, so keep that in mind when you compare. Next edition: 15 to 18 November 2027.

4. Hannover Messe

Hannover Messe 2026 drew 110,000 visitors, down from 123,000 a year earlier, which Deutsche Messe put down to airline and public transport strikes. Around 40 per cent came from abroad (Deutsche Messe, 24 April 2026), and the organiser puts the number of exhibitors at around 3,000. In 2027 the show runs for four days, 5 to 8 April, with Spain as partner country. One day less means each meeting slot counts for more.

5. MWC Barcelona

MWC 2026 counted nearly 105,000 attendees from 207 countries and territories, with 2,900 exhibitors, sponsors and partners (GSMA, 5 March 2026). Note that the GSMA counts sponsors and partners together with exhibitors. MWC 2027 runs from 1 to 4 March.

6. Agritechnica, Hanover

The leading show for agricultural machinery welcomed 2,819 exhibitors from 49 countries and 477,054 visitors from 171 countries in 2025 (DLG, the German Agricultural Society, 2025). That makes it sixth by exhibitors but one of Europe’s largest shows by visitors. It runs every two years, next from 14 to 20 November 2027.

7. Salone del Mobile, Milan

Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026 recorded 316,342 visitors from 167 countries (Salone del Mobile, April 2026). Trade visitors can attend on all six days, the general public on the final two. The 2027 edition runs from 13 to 18 April at Fiera Milano Rho.

8. gamescom, Cologne

gamescom 2026 drew 368,000 visitors from 131 countries and 1,743 exhibitors from 66 countries on around 233,000 square metres of gross space (gamescom, 30 August 2026). Just over 36,000 were trade visitors, roughly one in ten. Business meetings are best planned for the Business and Media Day, not the crowded public days. In 2027 the week opens with gamescom dev on 23 August, the Business and Media Day is 25 August, and the public opening follows on 26 August.

9. IAA Mobility, Munich

IAA Mobility 2025 counted almost 750 exhibitors from 37 countries and well over 500,000 visitors (IAA Mobility press release, 13 September 2025). Only the IAA Summit on the exhibition grounds is a trade event, and it drew more than 69,000 professionals from 108 countries. Most of the rest came to the open city programme in central Munich. The next edition runs from 7 to 12 September 2027.

10. EMO Milano

The world’s leading metalworking show is held every two years, twice in Hanover, then once in Milan. After EMO Hannover in 2025, EMO Milano takes place from 4 to 8 October 2027 at fieramilano. It is the one show on this list we include without figures, because we could not verify numbers for its last Milan edition.

How to pick your one big show for 2027

Back to the head of export marketing and her CEO. With the right measure, her answer will hold. Three questions get her there.

  1. Who do you need to meet? Distributors, international buyers, press or existing customers. That decides whether trade visitors, the international share or total attendance counts. If you are unsure how trade-only and public shows differ, our guide to what a trade show is explains the formats.
  2. Does the date fit your sales year? Check whether orders from a November show should land in this financial year or the next.
  3. How many conversations make the stand pay? Divide your stand budget by the number of meetings you can realistically hold. For the wider market picture behind that maths, our event industry statistics for 2026 collect the sourced numbers.

The third question is where big shows get expensive. On 300,000 square metres, chance is costly. A buyer walking ten halls over two days may find your stand on the second afternoon. Or never. The bigger the show, the more it pays to book your key meetings before you arrive. That is why more organisers now offer pre-scheduled meetings between exhibitors and visitors, as we describe in our guide to trade show matchmaking software.

For trade show organisers who want to give exhibitors those meetings, the Converve B2B matchmaking platform schedules meetings between exhibitors and trade visitors by clear, configurable rules such as industry, interests and free time slots. See how it works at Converve for trade shows.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the biggest trade show in the world?

It depends on the measure. By floor space, the Canton Fair in Guangzhou leads every show in this list, with 1.55 million square metres at its spring 2026 session (Canton Fair, 2026). bauma in Munich drew around 600,000 visitors in 2025 (Messe München), but its next edition is in 2028.

What are the biggest trade shows in Europe in 2027?

Among the shows in this list, by exhibitors at their latest edition: Anuga (8,015), ITB Berlin (5,601), MEDICA with COMPAMED (more than 5,300), Hannover Messe (around 3,000), MWC Barcelona (2,900 exhibitors, sponsors and partners) and Agritechnica (2,819). Figures from the organisers, 2025 and 2026.

When is CES 2027?

CES 2027 takes place in Las Vegas from 6 to 9 January 2027 (Consumer Technology Association).

What is the biggest trade show in Germany in 2027?

By exhibitors, Anuga in Cologne (8,015 in 2025, Koelnmesse). By visitors, IAA Mobility in Munich (well over 500,000 in 2025, including the open city programme) and Agritechnica in Hanover (477,054 in 2025, DLG).

Are attendance figures from different trade shows comparable?

Only partly. Some organisers count entries, others individual people, and many include public days, city events or exhibitor staff. CES 2026 is a good example: 54,676 of its 148,392 audited attendees were exhibitor personnel. Compare trade visitors with trade visitors, and figures from the same year.

Conclusion: choose the measure before you choose the show

There is no single biggest trade show, only the biggest by a given measure. By floor space the Canton Fair leads, by exhibitors in Europe Anuga, by visitors IAA Mobility and Agritechnica, and Europe’s biggest show by visitors, bauma, sits out 2027. The useful question is which size matters for your goal.

For export marketing, the number of trade visitors from key markets may be more useful than total attendance. Use that distinction to explain your choice when planning the budget. Do you organise a trade show and want to offer exhibitors pre-scheduled meetings? Get in touch with Converve.
